7 Steps to Making an Impact
From finding your cause to growing your portfolio — here's everything you need to know to become a Civic Exchange Ambassador.
Check All of the Causes
Your journey starts on the front page of the Civic Exchange. Sort through causes by National, Local, Coalition, and State — or visit our Focus Area pages to see what causes applied for which area.
Choose Your Cause and Learn
Whether you're drawn to strengthening democracy, elections and government, civic tech, or trusted information — start by connecting with a cause you believe in.
Check out the Focus Areas and learn more about the spaces you're interested in and how each cause relates to the others.
Become an Ambassador and/or Join a Team
Once you've found a cause you're excited about, click "Become a Fundraiser" on the cause page to create your personal Ambassador page with your own unique URL.
You can join as an Individual Ambassador or choose to create/join a Team to collaborate or compete with family, friends, or coworkers. Upload a profile photo (250×250px works best), write your bio, and set a fundraising goal.
Lead By Example — Make Your First Donation
Now you've got your page. Make the first donation yourself. Whatever you give sets the pace — people will mirror the amount you start with, so aim high.
Whatever you raise will go towards your cause, and whatever donation you start with will guide others in the amount they should give. Aim for the stars!
Get Your Page and Customize It
You're now an official Ambassador and can apply to get a digital badge for this first inaugural campaign. Share your page, email blast your network, talk to others, and enlist Team members.
You are representing one of these fantastic nonpartisan projects that range from local to national — and you are now a part of the Civic Exchange!
Peer-to-Peer is Not Crowdfunding
Share your unique Ambassador page with friends, family, coworkers, and your broader network. Whether through email, text, or social media — your voice can inspire others to give.
This means YOU are reaching out — not letting social media do the job for you. You are explaining to others what this means to you. This is how your cause gets bigger donations and avoids the trap of small crowdfunding donations.
Grow Your Portfolio & Watch the Leaderboard
Keep the momentum going by adding more organizations to your portfolio and continuing to spread the word. As donations roll in, you'll climb the Ambassador Leaderboard — a fun way to see your impact alongside others driving change.
If you're part of a team you'll be able to see the progress of other teams in contrast to your own. Watch the platform for more options as we grow!
