Better Together America held our first in-person workshop in Denver this past Spring. BTA brought Civic Hub Builders from across the country, advocates, partners, and stakeholders to a two day workshop that kicked off our Civic Hub Accelerator Workshop.

Participants spent all day learning best practices from each other and from the BTA team which they then took back with them into their communities and continued as seprate cohorts to build up their hub. Some of them are even on this platform!

Because we were working so many hours to ensure we were able to meet people where they are we invited attendees to help us create a Spotify list which we are sharing below the campaign!

What do we do and who are we?

Better Together America (BTA) is a catalyst that stitches together—and strengthens—the patchwork of place-based civic efforts already active across the United States. BTA is a national initiative on a bold mission: to ignite a movement of local Civic Hubs that connect everyday Americans across divides and give them the tools, trust, and support to shape their own communities — and the country — for the better.

Founded by organizers, veterans, bridge-builders, and movement strategists, BTA grew from one simple idea: Our future is up to all of us. Through a phased model of Civic Hub development, BTA supports community leaders from idea to action, providing infrastructure, strategy, and technology to help grassroots changemakers grow collective power. We don’t just believe in civic renewal — we build it, together.

Through “Civic Hubs,” BTA helps local coalitions bring residents, nonprofits, businesses, and government to the same table. Each hub follows a clear progression: (1) community-building that invites wide participation, (2) collaborative generation of solutions to issues residents name as most urgent, and (3) coordinated implementation—whether that means hands-on projects, policy advocacy, or partnering with public agencies. By supplying shared tools, peer learning, and data, BTA enables each hub to move faster and achieve greater impact than it could alone.

Taken together, these hubs form a nationwide network that can both solve problems locally and, over time shape state and national policy. BTA’s near-term goal is to grow from dozens of hubs serving about 10 percent of Americans to roughly 250 hubs—covering half the population—within a few years. Because BTA doesn’t “own” the hubs, it keeps overhead lean and local ownership high while connecting grassroots energy to systems-level reforms like fair elections or thoughtful zoning. The result is a practical route to healthier, more resilient communities and a democracy that actually delivers for the people it serves

Why fund our work?

We support Civic Hubs in 4 key phases:

  1. Formation – Identifying local leaders, and mapping assets in order to leverage existing strengths and amplify the good already happening in the community.
  2. Civic Muscle – Training and coaching leaders in community-building, local engagement, and cross-partisan listening.
  3. Vision & Solutions – Supporting community-led planning sessions using our “Vision-to-Action” toolkit.
  4. Collective Action – Funding, amplifying, and connecting hubs as they implement projects and campaigns locally

We provide local leaders and communities (as a part of our Civic Hubs Accelerator Workshop):

  • Mentorship and facilitation support
  • Outreach and fundraising infrastructure through civicexchange.org and tailored modules.
  • Peer learning through Civic Hub cohorts.
  • Toolkits, templates, & communications support.
  • Fiscal sponsorship and funding pathways.

With your help, we can support 50+ Civic Hubs this year, from rural towns to big cities and everything in between.

Why It Matters

America is hurting. Trust is low, loneliness is high, and our political discourse is often toxic. But beneath the headlines, there’s a quiet revolution happening: neighbors are coming together to find common ground and build solutions from the bottom up.

Better Together America exists to connect the connectors, support the doers, and scale what’s working. When we invest in local leadership, we unlock national transformation.

How do we measure success?

How do we measure success?

Better Together America has a robust measurement system that can enable our local leaders to benefit from impact data as well as our National Support Team to measure impact. We adding onto this system by evaluating top impact measurement systems across the sector and will be rolling out a measurement input and reporting portal to allow our people on the ground access to data and results.

Where do we work?

We work across the United States, focusing on communities at risk of political violence and deep polarization. From local neighborhoods to national platforms, we equip individuals and groups with peacebuilding tools they can use in their everyday lives and civic spaces.

Why are we featured in Strengthening Civic Spaces? Tell me more!

Better Together America strengthening civic spaces by amplifying local leaders, giving leaders tools and resources, bringing communities together to create change they want to see in their own communities. We do not parachute into localities - we work with Civic Hubs that come to us to strengthen their outreach and approach to building better communities.
